SwiftUI or UIKit for a new app in 2026?

Question

Starting a new iOS app for a client. Minimum target is iOS 17. Any reason to still pick UIKit?

Yuki Tanaka · Accepted Answer

With iOS 17 as the minimum, SwiftUI covers almost everything. Keep UIKit for the few gaps (some advanced text editing, complex collection layouts) and wrap them with `UIViewRepresentable`.

Fatima Zahra · Answer

Not iOS, but on Android we went fully Compose for a similar target and haven't regretted it. The declarative model is much faster to iterate on.
