Java or JavaScript for backend jobs in India?

Question

I'm a fresher. Service companies seem to hire Java developers, startups ask for Node.js. Which one should I go deep on first?

Carlos Mendes · Accepted Answer

Pick by the jobs you're applying for, not the language. For service companies and most banks, **Java + Spring Boot** is still the default, and the job count is huge. For startups, Node.js is common. Learn one deeply (build two real APIs with auth, a database and tests), then the second one takes weeks, not months.

From the hiring side: we care far more that you understand HTTP, databases and debugging than which language you used.
